Somehow in June 2024 I missed a checkbox and got added to Samsung’s email list. Not a problem, mistakes happen so I’ll just unsubscribe.
But this happened:
Weird, and as expected the refresh didn’t work. I thought I just give it a couple of days and try again later.
A few days passed and the same error.
I turned off add blocking, same error. Firefox, same error. Edge, same error. Try some different options on the page, same error. Try a different PC. Same error.
Wait a few more days, same error.
This is a little annoying I should be able to unsubscribe. I tried the developer developer tools to see if it was a bug on my side or theirs and found the code was throwing a 403 unauthorized for
Ok, so that seems like a bug on their side and seems to be causing my problem, I’m surprised no-one else has reported it, surely it’s can’t be just me. Let’s post on Twitter and see if someone from Samsung can help me out.
And sure enough they reach out with a bot, but after a long DM session I get a human and they say it’s not their department and try a different area of Samsung, try the website, or call tech support.
The emails are still coming and I still can’t unsubscribe so I’ll try the chatbot on the website.
After getting past the AI and prompts I finally get a human who says it’s not there department try calling Samsung. This is starting to get annoying, surely I’m not the only one getting this error.
I try Twitter again to see if get another person who can help. Nope. Same people, same answer.
I try the website again to see if I get another person who can help. Nope. Same people, same answer.
Time to call, I’m done with getting these emails.
After a long wait on hold I finally get a human on the line who says, yep, wrong department, you pressed 9 and you should have chosen option 1. No I can’t transfer you please call back.
I call back, and now it gets weird. The Samsung employee says it’s not them sending the email. The email is from **samsung@innovations.samsungusa.com and I called** Samsung.com so it must be spam, I protest but they wont budge and the call ends. I’m now at a loss.
Here’s one of many emails:
Ok, now what, I know the email is from Samsung, I’m not an idiot am I (am I?). Lets do a Who-is on SamsungUSA.com and see who owns it.
As expected it does look like Samsung owns the domain. Hey, there’s a name and number there and it doesn’t look fake, I should call it, what else can I do.
Holly smoke someone answers it.
I’ve got about 30 seconds to prove I’m not weird and get hung up on. I spurt my story quickly and don’t get hung up on. This person listens and believes me. We exchanged emails. Thanks random Samsung domain registry person.
I send all the info needed via email. Screenshots, Chrome error messages etc.
The person is helpful but I don’t want to overstay my welcome as I’m sure this is not their department. They agree that I should not be getting a 400 errors and the problem is on their side.
I wait a week.
Same error
I wait a week, no error.
I unsubscribe.
I keep getting emails, although it did say it would take a few days to actually unsubscribe.
The emails seem to have stopped.
I’ve crossed my fingers and wish thanks to my random Samsung friend in New Jersey.
Nope the emails are back. Now I’m at a loss I have run out of ideas.
Every few days I try unsubscribing again.
Now I get a new error. It now shows this text in the browser when I unsubscribe.
https://t.info.samsungusa.com/webApp/samPrefCtrEncA?id=%40bKWR27OneQyzezHcwg8y7A%3D%3D
IOB-090007 Network error (recv(), errno=9: Bad file descriptor)
WEB-530007 Error relaying '/webApp/samPrefCtrEncA' to URL 'http://localhost:8080/webApp/samPrefCtrEncA?id=%40bKWR27OneQyzezHcwg8y7A%3D%3D'.
I send it off to New Jersey
I wait an unsubscribe again. No error, also no expectation that it will work.
